How to apply for a market stall or craft fair pitch in the UK
UK organisers commonly refer to traders, stallholders, pitches, craft fairs and markets. Distinguish a short-term festival stall from a regular council-operated market pitch before applying.
How to find and apply for an event stall
1.Choose the right market or fair
Compare craft fairs, food and drink markets, indoor pop-ups, town fêtes and recurring markets. Check product rules and the intended audience.
2.Ask about pitch conditions
Confirm pitch dimensions, dates, permitted products, table hire, electrical access, weather arrangements and organisers’ cancellation policies.
3.Check trading requirements
Some markets require council licences, insurance, food registration or documentation. Ask the organiser and check local council requirements for the specific pitch.
4.Submit your stallholder application
Provide business details, product images and supporting documents. Wait for acceptance before treating the pitch as secured.
Before you apply: a vendor checklist
- Market location, event date and pitch size
- Public liability insurance or council trading licence where applicable
- Food registration and hygiene documents if selling food
- Pitch rent, deposit, cancellation rules and organiser contact
Licences and organiser requirements
GOV.UK explains that some market traders need a temporary or permanent licence from their local council. Requirements vary with the kind of event and trading location.

Common questions from stallholders
How can I hire a stall at a UK craft fair?
Open an approved event listing, check the organiser’s requirements and send a stallholder application when available. The organiser decides which stalls to accept.
Is a stallholder application the same as paying pitch rent?
No. Any BookEventStall application fee is separate from pitch rent, which you arrange directly with the event organiser.
Do I need a market trader licence?
It depends on the market and trading location. Consult the organiser and the relevant local council before trading.
